North East Syria Diary: Land fertile with dreams, Rojava

Article in other languages: – ESPGERITA

This land
Fertile with dreams
Opens our hearts
In a single heart
Thousands of souls live
Because love has no borders
My courage
Does not belong only to this body
My courage
Is that of thousands of others
Love
Holds the whole universe together
It is the key to life
And of our success
The brightest stars
Are the comrades
Who shed their blood
To allow our feet
To touch these lands
Life conquers death
In the smile of children
In a mother’s embraceIn every song shouted out loud
Or dance shared
This land
Fertile with dreams
That come true
since resistance is life
And life will prevail

These are intense times we are living in. This is a dirty war. A cruel war, imposed by the mentality of power. A war that is not part of our skin, of our essence. It is a war that makes our stomachs turn, that makes us cry out with tears in our eyes. Because life is what belongs to us. We are afraid of war because we know what it attacks, what it seeks to deprive us of. We are afraid that it wants to rob us of our humanity. But it is precisely this fear of the unjust that must drive us forward. We can listen to our fear and respond by addressing it.

Resistance is what belongs to us. We are women, youth, humans for peace. We love life so much that we are ready to defend it with all our means.

We protect these lands because they embody universal values. We protect ideas and a paradigm that focuses on a society rediscovering its ethics. Protecting these lands means protecting humanity, which is constantly seeking freedom. It means protecting women, who have rediscovered their light and now shine brightly.

It also means protecting our own lands. Because the Rojava revolution inspired us: it was a seed that has borne fruit everywhere. It has reached every latitude. Everything in the universe is connected: the efforts and blood shed to allow democracy to live in north-eastern Syria has also had an impact on us. It has given us the opportunity to influence thousands of people, it has given existence its meaning back, and it has led to the construction of many projects of communal life.

And protecting these lands means protecting the struggle that runs in our blood. We follow in the footsteps of revolutionaries of every era: we are Ada Gobetti, Rosa Luxemburg, Sakine Cansiz; we are the partisans of our mountains.

So let us protect this revolution with all our might. Even with our fragility, with our difficulties. We are needed. We can take one more step. We can disrupt with audacity. We are ready, because we have love in our hearts and strong ideals in our minds.

And we know what we are defending, what we are fighting for. We have an ideology, we have Reber Apo, we have thousands of martyrs behind us. We have comradeship, and a will, the possibility of breaking the system. We have a historical responsibility. History is written by us and we are writing it.

It is time to embody internationalism: here and now. The Rojava revolution has allowed us to dream big. And these dreams are so wide that they have no borders: it is our duty to preserve and expand them.

The liberation of Kobane, the construction of Jinwar, the women’s village, the flags of freedom waving in front of the mountains, the communes in every neighborhood: Rojava is all this and much more. It is democratic life. It is life triumphing over death. It is resistance shouting “victory or victory”. It is the sigh of freedom. Today, no action is too big or too small.

We extend our hands to all those who believe in socialism, who are ready to defend the revolution of this century, the women’s revolution. It is time to organise ourselves and those around us. Because the Rojava revolution is our revolution.

An serkeftin an serkeftin! Victory or victory!
