Today thousands of cars from all North-East Syria gathered in a convoy to reach the Tishreen Dam and make a human shield action in support of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) that in these weeks are waging there a great resistance and fight against the Turkish backed-up SNA and the ongoing Turkish state airstrikes. The Tishreen Dam is a strategical structure necessary in order to provide water, electricity and all the basic and general needs for the entire society in the area. With these attacks the fascist Turkish state wants to eliminate the possibility of the people to have access to their vital needs in order to attack the population and make them stop resisting. Especially the youth and the women are building the vanguard of the SDF that is now defending the whole population from the attacks of the jihadists.
The convoy, composed by families, journalists, institutions, civilians and youth, was deliberately attacked by the Turkish state through genocidal airstrikes. The attacks lead to many martyrs and wounded. Many videos and photos show that the people in the convoy were without any weapon and had no military intentions.
The Turkish state declared that the aim of the attacks was to scare the population in order to prevent the reaching of the dam. As an answer the people went out of the cars without fear and started marching with more determination and strength. With their march they made it clear that the Turkish state cannot harm the resistance of the society, and with courage reached the Tishreen Dam. What happened today showed us again that the war that is being fought on this land is a war against the society.
As the internationalist community and as the Internationalist Commune here in Rojava we condemn the genocidal attacks that were made against the civil society today. We make clear that there is a strong reaction against any attempt of the fascist Turkish state to attack the life. Every attack that is being made against the society will not stay without answer. The people in Rojava are decisive in their resistance and what is happening today represents the heroism of the people, and what is put in practice is the revolutionary people’s war.
