It’s October 2020, and Abdullah Öcalan, the founder of the Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK), leader and philosopher for the Kurdish and Middle Eastern people and creator of the „Paradigm of a Democratic, Ecological Society and Freedom of Women“ is still being held hostage on Imrali Prison Island by the Turkish Fascist State. 22 years have passed since the International conspiracy against him started with him having to leave Syria on 9th October 1998. In the result of a month long tour through different countries, Abdullah Öcalan was abducted from the Greek Embassy in Nairobi and brought to Imrali by a joint international intelligence operation on 15th February 1999.
The revolution in Rojava and the struggle in Kurdistan for freedom and against fascism is what inspires us today all over the world. It is the ideas, writings, teachings and decade long struggle and effort of Öcalan that have made possible this revolution in the 21st century, and this is how we were able to regain a strong hope and belief for a better world. This is the reason why we are today able to learn from the revolution in Kurdistan and find perspectives for the problems and struggles in our countries all over world. For the Kurdish people it has been clear since 1999 that their freedom is directly connected to the freedom of Öcalan, that Öcalan taken hostage means that the Kurdish people are taken hostage, and that Öcalan being isolated means that the Kurds are isolated. It is a dialectical relationship, existing due to the struggle and reality of Kurdistan. But today we can say that it is more than that. It is not only the Kurdish people but the people of the Middle East and beyond that are being imprisoned. The freedom of Abdullah Öcalan will be our freedom, because it would mean the defeat and the end of Turkish fascism, and of any despotism in the region. It would mean the victory of the revolution in Kurdistan and the struggle for a Democratic Middle East.
This year different organizations, such as KCDK-E, and the International Initiative Freedom for Öcalan have called for a Freedom For Abdullah Öcalan World Day under the slogan „Rise Up Against Isolation“. We, as The Internationalist Commune of Rojava, declare our support for this cause and call upon you to get active, take initiative, or join the planned demonstrations for the day of 10th October.
Together we will end the isolation of Abdullah Öcalan and of the Kurdish people! Together we will rise up against fascism and defend the revolution internationally!
Internationalist Commune of Rojava,
